Opened in Jun of this year, @Cafe cultivates a down-home vibe with plush furniture, funky tablecloths and a collection of trinkets. Of course, any good relationship is built on more than just appearances. In this case, it’s the coffee that’ll have you coming back for more. Baristas serve up lattes, cappuccinos and americanos made with gourmet beans, often topping off their drinks with a heart swirled in foam - the coffee shop equivalent of a hug. @Cafe lovingly serves more than just delicious coffee; the menu also includes home-style sandwiches, tasty pastries and smoothies, too! An eclectic, affordable wine list, with wine sold in "tastes" (2.5 oz), glasses, expertly arranged flights and bottles. Rotating beers on tap and by the bottle. Tasty bar snacks. Delicious ice cream. Yummy sodas. Coffee and tea. A beautiful outdoor patio. Cool indoor spaces. Honestly, I don't know how anyone could not love Bottlehouse - which might explain its straight-up five star reviews on Yelp.
This sweet place is the best thing to hit Madrona in a long time. The owners and their staff are knowledgeable and friendly, the atmosphere fantastic and drinks off the charts. I almost hate to post a glowing review because I dread the thought of not being able to walk in and grab a seat at will, but the only fate worse would be if this great neighborhood addition did not survive. (It appears to be doing fine, but I'm not taking any chances!) Stop in for an afternoon treat, happy hour or late night drink and nibble. Cafe Char is family owned and its purpose is to provide a comfortable and inviting atmosphere for the neighborhood to relax, get away, socialize and even entertain with a good cup of coffee or whatever is their choice of drink. Our focus is espresso but we have a variety of beverages such as teas, smoothies, lemonade, italian soda and bottled beverages. We also provide pastries, fresh baked cookies and breakfast quiche. We are also up for comments and suggestions on how to better your neighborhood's coffee shop.

The fanciest restaurant in the CD has an amazing selection of dishes featuring everything from fish to duck to truffles, served in the the intimate setting of an old house.
The only downside is the cost ($30-$60 per person), leaving this as a special occasion spot for most folks. (1 reviews)
Great, reliable, and affordable dog walker. Don't let the name fool you as they walk dogs in the CD too. Lisa is so flexible with our changing schedule and even sends us pictures of our dog while she takes her on a walk. Our dog LOVES Lisa and gets so excited whenever she sees her. I highly recommend Dogs on the Hill!

At the one-time Shell Station at 21st and E Union, Elvis Duran runs a great local auto maintenance business.
He offers a fairly complete auto service, including an oil change for $24.95, brake, transmission, engine, differential, clutch, coolant and tire services. He also performs computer diagnostics and can do the routine maintenance checklist. Possibly coming soon: body work (but no paint, too complicated.) Elvis is honest, hardworking and a real asset to the Union Street Business Group and our community. Bonus: he is willing to teach me a little Spanish and only laughs with me at my mistakes. From the owner: "Lunch is very fast,pick your ingredients, build your own burritos, tacos and quesadillas. Dinner is a sit down, nice, entree style with waiter service, we serve dishes like birria, mole, enchiladas in mole, chile en nogada, bistec adobado (not your typical mexican dishes, but authentic nontheless) all sauces and salsas are made in house as well as our tortillas (handmade to order) We have our liquor license now so are working on a happy hour menu and full drink list at the moment we are just serving beer and margaritas. Best Fish and Chip fast food ever! While this is a Mt Baker restaurant, it is close enough and well worth the car, bike or bus ride. They make their own "chips" fresh and the fish is incredible. We had fish and chips, oyster po boy and crab fritters. Their remoulade sauce is the best I've had outside of Louisiana. It also offers chowders, chicken and slaws. The prices are totally reasonable for what you get. It's starting to get busy as word gets out but well worth the wait. If you travel down Rainier to the Safeway/Ross Plaza, it's on the NE corner of Rainier and Letitia across from the Silver Fork Restaurant.

The Bakery Outlet carries tons of bread products, including sliced bread, english muffins, hamburger/hot dog buns, garlic bread, and loaves of pumpernickel. They also carry organic breads. There's also a random assortment of cookies, pies, and condiments.
Everything is really marked down (like loaves of bread for 4 for 5 bucks). A great place to stock up on good bread or buy bulk buns for that next BBQ. |
