Haven't seen her since yesterday afternoon.  No collar - she just finds a way to take it off.  Micro-chipped.  Anybody seen her today?  She lives on 22nd Ave between Union and Marion.

update:  she had snuck into the shed yesterday... which was locked.  Crisis averted.  Thank you.

It's the time again to stuff your freezers with delicious homemade soup. We're trying something new and hosting in a local cafe!

Judkins Street Cafe
Wednesday, Feb 22nd

It is a great opportunity to meet neighbors here in the CD. To attend, we're going to ask only this: you have to live in the Central District. We're going to broadly define the CD so that if you live north of Atlantic, south of Madison, east of 14th and west of 30th, you are invited!

Soup Swaps are a very easy way to add some variety to your meals. You bring six one-quart containers of frozen soup, and you leave with six-one quart containers of frozen soup, but now they'll be in a wonderful mix instead of just eating from that same big pot of soup for days and days.

We won't be specifying it vegan, vegetarian or meat qualities: just bring what you like to cook. It's only important to make sure that you've got quart size containers and that you have six. You can read about Soup Swap (it's a craze that started right here in Seattle) at ... (more)

Are you passionate or just curious about kimchi? Here’s your chance! Join your neighbor and health counselor Kate Faulkner to learn about a classic method of veggie preservation developed in many cultures, and in particular the classic ingredients that go into the spicy Korean ferment. This won’t be your grandmother’s kimchi, but will give you a delicious and easy approach to making your own inexpensively and safely at home. If you missed my sauerkraut classes, don’t pass up your chance to learn how to make probiotic-rich, live culture kimchi at home. I will give you a step-by-step approach, we’ll talk about fermentation basics, why live-culture foods are good for you, how to make them inexpensively at home, and safety-tips. This empowering class will be a good intro or continuing ed for those who want to learn how to make many fermented foods that can enhance our senses, digestion, and total health. We'll sample kimchi and get our hands dirty.

One of the more inspiring examples of activism in recent months has been Seattle high school students working to educate policy makers, and the community that elects the policy makers, on issues affecting public education.

The Squire Park Community Council is pleased to welcome to its quarterly meeting this Saturday, January 14, representatives of these students with an important message. Come and hear what they have to tell us.

Saturday's meeting also will be an opportunity for a conversation with Carl de Simas, representing the Central District Association Business District Program, and Richard Johnson, the new head of the Central District Chamber of Commerce. What does the C.D. mean to you? What can existing businesses do to attract your support. They want to hear from you.

And, if you are interested in hearing more about taking advantage of a fund available to help you pay for improvements to the comfort and energy-use of your home, Sustainable Works will be at Saturday's meeting to tell you more about how... (more)

Found a very sweet, (mostly black, grey, and a few white spots) small female dog this morning on 25th and Spring right by the pea patch.  She has a blue braided collar but no tags.  My husband is taking her to get scanned for a microchip... fingers crossed.  She is so incredibly nice... opened the car door to check her tags and she jumped right in and sat in the back seat.  Seems well trained and very obedient... wish my dogs were so well mannered.  Please call me if  you know her 206.920.5472 and we can get her back to you.

We lost our cat, Leroy, this morning when he snuck out the front door as we came home for the evening. Since we have a security camera trained on our front porch, we were able to see the footage of Leroy's escape.  After sneaking out as my boyfriend entered the house, this weirdo cat sat nonchalantly on our steps in the dark for two hours before sauntering off into the night.

Leroy is not an outdoor cat, and usually will not walk further than our front steps if we ever let him out for fresh air. He's somewhat timid but loves people and isn't the kind of cat that runs away when we have guests.

Leroy's an orange tabby with black spots on his nose and a kink in his tail. His head is small for his body, and he has an embarrassing hang-belly that sways when he walks.

If you've seen him around, please call or text 206-790-3295. We live near Garfield High.

Thanks so much!!! We hope to see Leroy again!!

The first ever Central District Holiday Party looked to be worthy of a repeat performance in 2012. It's not every day your holiday pageant includes break dancers from Coyote Central or an eight-kid guitar group from Meter music school. It's also not every day those guitar kids break out Modest Mouse and Weezer. Nope, it's the magic of Christmas.

Add Santa in Central Cinema's lounge and a couple PBR tallboys for moms and dads and you have the makings of a new CD holiday tradition.

The holiday party is tonight and I noticed that there are 5 or 6 cars parked across the street from the cinema. The east side of 21st between Pine and Union is a no parking area.

The No Parking sign directly across from Central Cinema was knocked down a few years ago and never replaced. I've contacted the city to get a new sign put up. Who knows when they'll get around to it; until then, please remember not to park there so you don't get a ticket!

Our newly adopted Australian Cattle Dog got loose and bolted Saturday night, December 17. She was last seen near Cherry and 21st, running north. She has a blue merle coat, sort of grey salt and pepper, with some tan markings on her face and paws. She is two years, old, and sort of small for a Cattle Dog, about 30 pounds, maybe a bit over knee-high. She was not wearing a collar. She answers to Bonnie.

Please call Jeremy at 206-484-6332, anytime, day or night, with any information. Even if you think you saw her, please let us know.

Thanks so much for your help.

UPDATE 12/25: From Tina: We saw Bonnie TODAY (Christmas Day) in the Arboretem - (she was scared but good) but we couldn't get her.  We're really hoping for a Christmas Miracle here and that she could sleep in her bed at home tonight!

She was seen a the Interlaken Intersection of the Arboretem - here's a link to her word press site about here as well for pics and stuff:  http://lostdogbonnie.wordpress.com/2011/12/22/arboretum/...(more)

Found a large male Airedale Terrier-type dog lingering in front of my house. He has a purple collar, but no tags. His face has a cut on one side. I have him fenced in my yard to avoid further injury, but I will not be able to bring him inside the house and will unfortunately have to involve animal control this evening if he is not claimed. Please contact me if you recognize this description. 206-913-2510 or 206-218-9885 or via email at crastayo@yahoo.com Thanks.

When the City of Seattle launched CPW last spring, homeowners in the eligible areas began to take advantage of government subsidized energy assessments and energy upgrades. Now that winter has arrived and homeowners are feeling the chill, the program is starting to heat up.

The CPW program currently offers rebates and incentives that help to off-set the overall cost of the upgrade to the tune of $1,000 for most homeowners. In addition, time-sensitive offers, such as a current incentive for homeowners to sign up by Thanksgiving to get an extra $500 off the cost of the upgrade. Affordable financing options are also available through the program, including a loan from the program that enables participants to put no money down and repay on their Seattle city light bill.

Washington Park home owner Allyson Adley said, “When we learned that 86% of the warm air in our house was escaping each hour and being replaced with cold air from outside, we were shocked. That provided us with the motivation to act.”

CPW is a federally... (more)

Concept: Public means for us all.

Please join me this Saturday, 11/19 from 2 to 4 to enjoy a park that has not been  very public for quite some time!  For the day I have a new name for the Madison Park North Beach, it will be the "1% Park for a Day Park".  Bring a friend, a ball, a frisbee, some coffee, your dog and see the view blocked by a nice old fence.  I will have a petition for the Parks Board supporting removal of the fence and requesting that the Parks Dept. put a regular Parks sign, you know, the tan, red, orange, green and blue park sign, that is in every other park in our area and the City except this one.  Also, go to Google Earth, put in 43rd Ave E and E Lynn and see an amazing view!  The day the view was taken Madison Beach, 3 blocks down, will show wall to wall people and at the "1% Park" exactly 1 person on a towel, perfect 1% and 99% use of 2 "public" parks.  You can also e-mail the Parks Board at sandy.brooks@seattle.gov to give you view on this. ...
